July-Festival of Harvest
屬於家族祭儀或結盟氏族聯繫Kaviaz。小米為布農族主食,因而收割前之禁忌Samu繁多且儀式隆重。地主先至粟米園摘取5、6根粟穗,插於穀倉左右邊和屋前牆壁,揮搖獸骨以示感謝天神恩賜豐收。以尖竹矛宰殺豬仔,欲使豬仔大聲慘叫,象徵四面八方之小米全至自己田園,結榖累累而豐收。祭畢,將烹煮後之豬肉與酒宴請親友。翌日即開始收割米穗。祭祀前後12日內禁食米食、青菜、地瓜、橘子、香蕉、糖、鹽、魚、雞肉等美食,因為吃了美食意味著今年收割之小米會被快速吃光。藉以感謝天神恩賜小米豐收之外,旨在教育族人要有愛惜食物、不浪費之美德。
It’s a ceremony of family, and also a connection with the alliance between clan (Kaviaz in Bunun). The millet is staple food of Bunun, so there are many taboos before the harvest, and the ceremony is very solemn. As the ceremony, the landowner has to go to the millet farm and take off five or six millet and plug them in the left, right and in the front of the barn. Then, wave animal bone to thank the god for the harvest. Next, use lance made of bamboo to kill pigs, they want pigs feel hurt and give a bloodcurdling scream, to be the symbol of all of the millet in all directions belong their homeland, and they will have a big harvest. After the ceremony, they will cook the pigs, held a banquet and invite their relatives and friends come and celebrate with them. The next day, they will reap the millet. Before and after twelve days of the Festival, they can’t eat rice, vegetables, sweet potatoes, tangerines, bananas, sugar, salt, fish and chicken or other delicacies, or it means that the millet will be finish off soon. The other meaning is to thank god for the harvest and teach clansmen to virtue of cherish food and no waste.
